Anju Bobby George (born 19 April 1977) is an Indian athlete. She is India's first and only World Champion in Athletics at the IAAF World Athletics Final. Anju Bobby George made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris.
With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics, jumping 6.70 m. She went on to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Athletics Final (a competition between the best eight athletes in the world based on the world ranking) in 2005 , a performance she considers her best.
Anju was upgraded to gold status from silver in the 2005 World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo following the disqualification of Tatyana Kotova of Russia by the International Association of Athletics Federations, following the recent re-testing of the latter’s sample collected at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002. She had gotten into 5th position with a personal best score of 6.83 at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Anju showed her knack for the first time during a school athletic meet in 1991, when she won the 100m hurdles and relay events, spotted the second position in the long jump and high jump events, and owned the title of women's champion. Anju bagged the third position in the 100m hurdles and 4 100m relays at the national school games and attracted maximum eyeballs.
Although Anju initiated her athletic career as a heptathlete, she soon switched to long jump after realising her strength in the particular discipline and went on to win a medal at the Delhi Junior Asian Championships of 1996. Within three years, the girl cemented her place in the hearts of sports lovers and set a national record in triple jump with a dynamic performance at the Bangalore Federation Cup, held in 1999.
The same year, she bagged a silver medal at the South Asian Federation Games, held in Nepal. In 2001, Anju competed at the National Circuit Meet, held in Thiruvananthapuram, where she bettered her own record to 6.74m and also bagged gold medals in triple jump and long jump in the Ludhiana National Games.
The year 2002 brought a big stage to Anju-the Commonwealth Games, where she earned a bronze medal for clearing 6.49m in long jump and also bagged a gold medal at the Asian Games. The Government of India honoured Anju for her phenomenal career in athletics.
In 2003, Anju bagged India's first medal at the World Championships in Athletics and wrote history. In the same year, she also bagged a gold medal at the Afro-Asian Games.
