Pradip Kumar Banerjee (born June 23, 1936), or P. K. Banerjee as he is called often, is a distinguished former Indian footballer and football coach. He made 84 appearances for India, scoring 65 goals during the course of his career.
He was one of the first recipients of the Arjuna Award when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. In 2004, he was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, the highest honour awarded by FIFA.
Pradip Kumar Banerjee was born on June 23, 1936, in Jalpaiguri in the Bengal Presidency (now West Bengal). He studied at Jalpaiguri Zilla School and completed his schooling at K.M.P.M. School in Jamshedpur.
As coach, he helped Mohun Bagan make a big turnaround from 1976. Mohun Bagan's years from 1976 to 1979 were surely one of the most successful of Mohun Bagan's, when they won a number of trophies under the coaching of P. K. Banerjee.
- He was the coach of Mohun Bagan for 8 seasons (1976 to 1979, 1984, 1990, 1994, and 1998). He helped Mohun Bagan win 25 trophies under his coaching. He received the Mohun Bagan Ratna in 2010. He also successfully coached the Indian National team for a number of years.
